stuck? try this.

There are days when the inspiration just doesn't come. We all know the feeling.

I was really stuck not long ago. A wise art friend suggested: “Do a 100 day project!”

I knew that 100 consecutive days might set me up for failure. Instead, I chose something more manageable—a 30-day challenge with parameters designed for my reality.

• Create one painting or collage every day.
• No restrictions on subject or style.

To make the project less intimidating, I pre-cut several sheets of 5×7" mixed media paper—small enough to feel approachable and portable enough to accommodate days away from my studio.

What happened surprised me. Working quickly and without judgement became liberating. Some days I produced pieces I genuinely liked; other days yielded work that was… adequate. But I kept going.

After 30 days, I had a body of work. The creative rhythm had become second nature. Several small pieces inspired larger canvas works. Most importantly, I was inspired by consistent creative practice.

Next time I’m stuck? Maybe I’m ready for that 100-day challenge.
